Check Your New Michigan ID: Thousands Were Printed Incorrectly

If you recently got a state ID or driver’s license from the State of Michigan, take a good look at it and make sure all of the information is correct. The Michigan Secretary of State’s Office says about 8,200 enhanced driver’s licenses and state IDs were recently mailed with a pretty major printing mistake.

Thousands of Michigan Enhanced IDs Had Incorrect Information

The problem happened with a batch of cards printed August 26 by the state’s vendor, Idemia. Instead of showing the cardholder’s correct information in the lower right-hand corner, the misprinted cards reportedly included a stock photo and an incorrect date of birth according to WXYZ.

So, yeah, if you opened your mail and suddenly looked like a completely different person, there’s your answer. The good news is Michigan says you don’t have to do anything. Corrected replacement cards have already been sent automatically to everyone affected.

Temporary Michigan Licenses and IDs Are Available

If you need something in the meantime, temporary licenses and IDs can be requested online or by visiting a Secretary of State branch office. And there’s another important point… If your old driver’s license or state ID has not expired, it is still valid, including for travel.

So, bottom line. if you were one of the roughly 8,200 people who got a very strange-looking enhanced license or ID in the mail, a corrected card should already be on its way.
