End of an Era: Spare Time in Lansing Officially for Sale
Lansing is looking at the end of an era.
Lansing Faces the End of a Local Staple
It is with great sadness that I share that it appears that Spare Time Entertainment Center will not be returning to Lansing.
Spare Time Entertainment Center has been closed for some time now. On April 28, 2025, Spare Time suffered damage from an explosion that happened right next to the building. The former family fun space has been closed for over a year since the explosion and subsequent fire.
What Happened to Spare Time Entertainment Center
There was a trailer parked right next to the building that exploded. That explosion caused a fire that then spread to Spare Time. It caused a tremendous amount of soot, smoke, and water damage. Thankfully no one was hurt.
Additionally, shortly after this explosion happened, the owner and patriarch of this family-owned business died. Mike MacColeman passed away suddenly on May 29, 2025.
It seems that these setbacks were too much for Spare Time Entertainment Center to reopen. Now, the building is officially for sale, as noted by the multiple 'for sale' signs on the property.
It is so sad to see a Lansing fixture like this come to an end. I spent so many nights there bowling, taking part in trivia, playing the arcade games, and even enjoying some Christmas parties there. Those are memories I won't soon forget.
I hope the best for the MacColeman family and the entire Spare Time team as they move forward with the selling of the building. I'm sorry that we couldn't see this fun space reopen.
