Michigan Chicken Wing Festival Returns to Lansing

The Michigan Chicken Wing Festival returns to Adado Riverfront Park Saturday and Sunday, September 5 and 6, from 2 to 9 p.m.

Organizer Shirley Carter-Powell says they're expecting more than 30 different wing flavors this year.

More Than 30 Chicken Wing Flavors to Try

I'm a garlic parm guy myself. Shirley? She goes for something considerably more Michigan.

Blueberry barbecue.

It's actually the festival's signature flavor.

"We needed to have a signature wing," Shirley says. "And the blueberry barbecue is our signature wing."

More Than Just Chicken Wings

Beyond wings ranging from mild to what Shirley calls the dangerous "hot hot," there'll be live entertainment, DJs, a Kids Zone with inflatables and interactive art, vendors, drinks, and the always entertaining chicken wing eating contest. The winner of the contest gets a trophy and a cash prize.

Michigan Chicken Wing Festival Admission and VIP Options

Admission is free from 2 to 5 p.m., with paid admission later in the evening. VIP packages are also available.

The Festival Supports a Bigger Cause

And there's a bigger reason to eat wings this weekend.

The festival is an annual fundraiser benefiting the Against All Odds Foundation. Proceeds help support cancer survivors and underserved families, including through Lillian's, its free retail store at the Lansing Mall, which provides clothing, household essentials, and personal care items.

As Shirley put it, make it a Labor Day weekend "staycation."

Bring the kids. Bring a lawn chair or blanket.

And bring an appetite.
