Remember Hela’s Kitchen at Lansing Mall? I Tried Its New Spot
You remember Hela's Kitchen from the Lansing Mall?
I did too, which is why I wanted to check out what they're doing now that they've got a place of their own on West Saginaw in Lansing.
What’s on the Menu at Hela’s Kitchen?
First thing I noticed: the menu isn't trying to be a Mexican-food encyclopedia.

You know those places where the menu has 147 things in it and you need ten minutes just to figure out where to start? Hela's Kitchen isn't like that. They keep things pretty focused — tacos, enchiladas, burritos, quesadillas, flautas, nachos and a few other favorites — and based on my visit, that seems to work for them.
Trying the Nachos and Enchiladas
I was eyeing the enchiladas, but those Hela Nachos caught my attention too. And once the food hit the table, there was no shortage of cheese, meat, lettuce, tomatoes and all the stuff that turns nachos into an actual meal instead of something you mindlessly eat during a football game.
The enchiladas came with rice and beans, and there was plenty of that glorious melted-cheese situation happening on top.

One thing I especially liked was the meat. It wasn't overly seasoned to the point where everything tasted like the same spice packet. You could actually taste the food.
And yes, I tested the salsa too. Somebody had to. Two thumbs up.
Is Hela’s Kitchen Worth a Visit?
Hela's Kitchen has come a long way from its Lansing Mall days, and I'm glad I finally stopped in to see the new space for myself.

If you're looking for a Mexican spot in Lansing you may not have tried yet, put Hela's Kitchen on your list.
