Downtown Lansing Has a Spooky New Twist on Its Famous Red Balls
Downtown Lansing's roundabout is looking pretty spooky right now, and I'm absolutely loving it!
If you haven't seen them for yourself, Downtown Lansing's roundabout is decorated with a pyramid of giant ornaments that look like jack-o-lanterns. Which is absolutely perfect for this spooky, Halloween season.
Downtown Lansing’s Roundabout Gets a Halloween Makeover
For most of the year, the roundabout at Michigan and Washington Avenues sits empty. However, closer to the Christmas season, the roundabout gets decorated with the "Orbs of Winter". You know... those Big Red Balls. A pyramid of giant red ornaments that are the unofficial official start of the holiday season in Lansing.
Meet Lansing’s “Spooky Balls”
Now, Lansing has an official start to the spooky season with this stack of pumpkin ornaments, or Spooky Balls, if you will.

These giant pumpkins were actually created right here in Michigan, at Bronner's Christmas Wonderland. Downtown Lansing Inc. (which purchased the spooky balls) worked with Bronner's to create these 6-foot globes. Each one is made of fiberglass, is hollow, and weighs 150 pounds. If you want to see some behind-the-scenes making of these giant ornaments, you can see it HERE.
How Long Will the Spooky Balls Be Downtown?
The Spooky Balls were installed on September 10 and are expected to come down on November 5. Make sure you get your spooky photo-ops before then!
And of course, prepare yourself for the imminent arrival of the Big Red Balls after that!
