It might be one of mid-Michigan's smallest movie theaters, but it sure drew people from even the “big city” of Jackson to the movies.

It’s the Star Theater in Brooklyn.

Opening date was October 7, 1937. Upon opening, it was filled with 200 seats (told ya it was small!). With success came expansion, and by 1950 it had 463 seats.

I recall going to the Star in the 1970s after seeing their ads every day in the Jackson Citizen Patriot for years. I finally took the drive to Brooklyn with a couple of buddies and we really did have a good time.

If the Star had only hung in there for one more year, it would have celebrated fifty years.....but it ended up closing operations in 1986.

For next year, 2027, I hope someone plans some kind of 90th anniversary celebration for the Star. It is very likely, as restoration is already in progress!
