Mystery Hill Has Outlasted All Other Irish Hills Attractions
More than likely you’ve seen it, passed by it, gone inside, or saw another of the few “Mystery-whatevers” in our state.
What makes Mystery Hill in the Irish Hills stand out is the fact that it’s still in business after almost all the other attractions in that area have up and left: Prehistoric Forest, Frontier City, Stagecoach Stop, the Go-Karts, giant slide, Fantasy Land, Mini-Golf, etc.
Mystery Hill was established in 1952, and soon awed the public with water running uphill, a ball rolling uphill, people sit in a chair suspended on the wall, the shorter of two people becomes the taller, etc.
Found recently was the “Ward Hall’s Strange Oddities” exhibit, that traveled throughout the country over 80 years ago. It was discovered hidden in a storage unit, now pulled out and available for the current generations to marvel at. Freaks of nature – both animal and human – including Monkey Girl and Penguin Boy, 2-headed beasts, and others.
But as mind-blowing as that is, it’s Mystery Hill that continues to hold fascination as it has for three-quarters of a century.
