Michiganders know that nothing ruins a vacation faster than a bad hair day. But if you're flying out of Detroit (DTW), Grand Rapids (GRR), or Lansing (LAN), the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) just announced new rules that could leave your styling routine grounded.

USA Today reports the TSA has officially banned certain cordless hair styling tools from checked luggage. That includes:

  • Cordless curling irons or flat irons with cartridges
  • Butane-fueled hair tools
  • Spare gas cartridges for those tools

Why? Because gas and butane in the cargo hold are about as welcome as an explosive raccoon in your attic. They're dangerous, unpredictable, and guaranteed to cause chaos.

Here's the catch, Michigan: these tools are allowed in your carry-on bag if they have safety covers to keep them from accidentally firing up mid-flight. Corder tools? Totally fine in both checked and carry-on.

But if you thought you could toss your cordless curler in your checked bag and stroll onto your flight—nope. The TSA will happily confiscate your entire suitcase.

What This Means for Your Three-Day Weekend

So before you pack for that long weekend up north or that quick flight out of Michigan, double-check your hair gear. Otherwise, you'll be arriving with "Great Lakes humidity chic" instead of your usual Instagram-ready style.
