Why September Weather Makes Getting Dressed in Michigan Impossible
We have reached that magical point in September when getting dressed in Michigan requires a meteorology degree, backup clothes, and questionable judgment.
Welcome to hoodie-and-shorts season.

Seriously. You wake up, and it feels like fall. There's a chill in the air, your coffee tastes better, and for roughly 14 whole minutes you're convinced it's finally sweatshirt weather.
Then lunch happens. You're now sweating, running the air conditioning in the car, and wondering why you dressed for a run to the cider mill while Mother Nature has turned her thermostat to BROIL.
Michigan September Weather Refuses to Pick a Lane
This is the season you begin to understand why hooded tank tops are a thing. Michigan gives us a little bit of everything: crisp mornings, warmer afternoons, clouds, sunshine, random showers, and nights that make you regret opening the windows.
Turn off the air conditioner? Absolutely not.
Put away the patio furniture? Don't you dare.
Wear shorts? Yes.
Bring a hoodie? Also yes.
Put a backup pair of jeans, a poncho, and a Gore-Tex winter coat in your back seat just in case? Yep.
Fall Is Coming, Eventually
I actually love this time of year. Football is back, cider mills are waking up, and Michigan's trees are getting ready to show off. But September isn't quite fall; it's more like a negotiation.

It's summer slowly being shown the exit while fall stands in the doorway asking, "You ready for me yet?" Until Michigan weather commits, I'll keep wearing shorts with a sweatshirt and carrying sunglasses next to an umbrella.
As for the ice scraper? That never leaves the car. This IS Michigan, after all.
