The Former “House of Yesteryear” – Iron Mountain, 1961
As more roadside attractions pop up throughout Michigan, even more are falling by the wayside.
One of them that catered to tourists in the Upper Peninsula was the House of Yesteryear, located in Iron Mountain at W7764 S. US-2..... and it has been gone now for a few years.
House of Yesteryear was a museum and gift & souvenir shop that opened in 1961. It stayed open throughout tourist seasons – May thru October – for many years until it finally closed. Official closing year is so far unknown.
During its tenure as a tourist attraction, the museum exhibits spotlighted UP pioneer life which included their tools, farm equipment, kitchen utensils and other household items, mining & lumber antiques, old toys, and more.
Although the museum has moved out, the building still stands in the 2020s and looks like there may be someone residing there.
