The Most Glorious Place at Wampler’s Lake? Farm Hotel, 1920s

For some who have heard of this place, there are a few who mistake this as the site of the former Wampler’s Lake Pavilion...not so. This was close by, but not the same.

This was the short-lived Farm Hotel, the business address listed as 1220 Wamplers Lake Road in Norvell.

It is believed to have existed before the 1920s, owned and operated by George J. Nisle.

While the people who used to come here have all passed away, it's important to let this and future generations know a little more about our local history.....and the old Farm Hotel was a glorious entertainment venue, far and above anything else that appeared in-and-around Wampler’s or Devil’s Lakes, or even the Irish Hills.

The Farm Hotel featured not just overnight rooms, but it was all the other perks that made it memorable: Barber shop, boating, bowling, cottage rentals, dancing, dining, fishing, garage rentals, gas & oil, live bands, pool, swimming with bathing suit rentals, and tennis!

It was quite the place, especially during Prohibition throughout the 1920s – but then it all came to an unexpected halt. Fire destroyed the entire place in 1929.
