The Country Kitchen, Mason: 1950s-1970s
Even though it closed in the early 1970s, I remember the Country Kitchen, located in Mason at 3700 Harper Road.
The Country Kitchen was operated by Mary Lennon and Mable Tuttle who cooked all the delicious dishes. Their personal slogan was “your home is our only competitor”.
They served special old-fashioned dinners on Christmas Day and their regular menu included four salads, relish tray, fried chicken (and one other meat), giblets, mashed potatoes, dressing, baked beans, noodles, dumplings, biscuits, dessert and a drink.....and the adult cost was two bucks, seventy-five cents for kids!

And on top of that......they had free refills.
Do you know of any place these days that serves that much food at a reasonable price? Of course not.
The Country Kitchen opened sometime during the 1950s and hardly lasted two decades. By the early 1970s, it was closed permanently. For the local old-timers, it is a place that is still fondly remembered.
The old building, although renovated, is still standing and currently being used as Colt’s & Filly’s Childcare.
