Brownie Root Beer: Made in Michigan, 1929
Another favorite Michigan pop from yesteryear was Brownie Root Beer, produced by Atlas Beverage Company in 1929.
Atlas was founded in Detroit by an immigrant from Poland named Walter Tomaszewski. The company did indeed bottle and sell different yummy soda pops, including Cheer-Up and Bulldog Ginger Beer, along with regular pop flavors like Club Soda, Cream, Strawberry and the like.
Brownie Root Beer eventually lengthened its name to Brownie Caramel Cream Root Beer, making the old advertising all the more collectable.
At the time, the pop bottles could be purchased in cases by anyone, personal or business. Fortunately, you can still get Brownie 'Caramel Cream' Root Beer at several different online shops.
The Atlas plant closed in the mid-1990s, sold in 2003, and then sadly demolished.
More local history ruined for future generations.
Now a strip mall sits on the former Atlas Beverage Company site.
