Dirty Play Leaves Michigan Football Player With Spine Injury
Fall has arrived in Michigan, and that means High School Football is back.

A play at a recent game in Michigan is getting national attention.
It's not because someone made a jaw-dropping play; instead, it's what happened after the whistle was blown.
A cheap shot by a defensive player on an offensive player left him with severe injuries and the possibility of never being able to play football again.

15-year-old Colton Mims from Lakeshore High School suffered two spinal fractures after an opponent body-slammed him during a junior varsity game on September 19, 2025.
During the third quarter of a game against Kalamazoo Central, Mims was already on the ground when an opposing player got up from being on top of him.
The player then jumped up and purposely landed on the defenseless player on the the ground.
Mims was taken to the hospital, where it was confirmed he had broken his spine in two places.
Mims's mother, Courtney Mims, who captured the incident on video described the event as "horrifying".
Kalamazoo Central High School released a statement on social media addressing the incident saying that the student "made a poor choice".
I'm not sure what punishment was given to the student, but anything less than a permanent ban doesn't go far enough.
