Besides getting to celebrate our Independence from England, we also get to enjoy some great BBQ with friends and family, find some water to cool off in and when the sun goes down light up the night sky with beautiful fireworks.

I love all those things, but do have one thing I believe we should change to make the Holiday weekend more enjoyable.

Michigan Should Change Its Fireworks Law

I love fireworks, but believe that not everyone should be allowed to set them off.

In Michigan there are firework laws that cover things like how old you have to be to set off fireworks, dates and times when you can and can't light them.

But there is one more thing that should be added to Michigan's Fireworks law.

In Michigan you can't set off fireworks on the sidewalk, in the street or at a park, but you can set them off in your yard or driveway because it's considered private property.

This is where I want to make a change to the law.

I want it added that you can't set off fireworks that exploded in the air within city limits.

Now If you live out in the country and have some space between you and your neighbor you should be able to light them off freely, but if you live in the city and have a neighbor close by then you should only be allowed to small fireworks that never leave the ground.

Every year needless fires or damage are caused from fireworks that were set off by someone in the city.

On my street there is often piles of fireworks debris, along with pieces on top of cars and houses.

I believe that it would also be very helpful for pets and veterans who can sometimes have a very hard time dealing with the loud bangs.

What do you think? Let me know.
