Thanks, West MI! You Raised $167K For Hungry Kids

The Free Beer and Hot Wings Show broadcast for 12 hours today on 97.9 GRD, and thanks to your donations, we raised $167,433 for Kids' Food Basket.

'Fill the Basket’ is a radiothon hosted by 97.9 GRD to raise money to provide healthy food and snacks for kids who don’t have enough to eat at home or on the weekends

Kids' Food Basket

The Kids' Food Basket (KFB) is a food equity community organization dedicated to both meeting an immediate access need and addressing the systemic causes of food insecurity.

KFB combines food access, agriculture, and education by operating two 10-acre farms that distribute fresh produce directly to the community while also teaching lessons about healthy food, how it’s grown, and why it matters.

West MI Steps Up: $167K Raised For Hungry Kids

Last year, the GRD staff initially set a goal of raising $30,000, but quickly increased it to $37,500 upon learning that this is the amount needed to remove a school from the waiting list. Then we found KFB needs $35,700 x 3 so they can commit to a school for three years. Thanks to an anonymous donor who contributed $40,000, we reached a total of $135,000, enabling Kids' Food Basket to remove a school from the waiting list.

This year, Free Beer from the Free Beer and Hot Wings Show had a lofty goal of $200,000, and thanks to your donations from West Michigan and around the country, 979 GRD was able to raise $167,433.94.
